Bank of America

this is unbelievable! i think the scariest thing is that it might be real!

click here for this Bank of America video

to the tune of One by U2 (one of my all time favourite songs!)
"one bank
one card
one name that is known all over world

one heart
filled with spirit
with feeling, with sharing

one bank working every day
to bring higher standards, higher standards
one....."

(thanks for this one
Jonny)

Urgh. This is SHOCKING.

It reminds me a little of the reworked version of John Lennon's "Imagine" which some American fundie church produced, replacing the words "and no religion too" with "and one religion too".

Sort of missing Lennon's point, no?

Likewise I shouldn't think Bono and co would be best pleased with this subversion of their intentions. Er, no - hang on - surely they must have given permission to use the song in this way! Double Urgh.

please don't tell me that U2 would really have agreed to ONE being used like this?

One would hope not. Still, if they didn't, I find it hard to see how the bank could use the song without getting sued. Maybe the rights in the song have been sold to the label, or something, and the label have given consent. I dunno. That's the most positive explanation I can think of!

If you'll forgive yet another 60s/70s comparison: do you remember Graham Nash's folkie, veggie, back-to-nature homage to Joni Mitchell, "Our House", getting used by a Building Society in the 90s? Similar thing. Not QUITE so brash though.
